PLAGIARISING MYSELF?

Top-5 Mac Musings – August 25, 2025

PLAGIARISING MYSELF?
Three years ago I was staring at the cursor and wondering how I could add to my audience and start meaningful conversations on LinkedIn. I had built an audience of over 600 followers, but was getting minimal traction on content I was creating, not just reposting or amplifying.

This got me thinking about how often we can be scrolling or doomscrolling on Instagram or (gulp) Twitter (I refuse to call it the other thing) and we see a post from a friend or personal acquaintance and we just slide past to see and like and comment on what’s new with the “cats of instagram” and how they are doing.

Now a look back in the time machine at 2022 me with this important public service announcement:

“Having worked on dozens of social media accounts for sports teams and a couple social media influencers I can tell you it truly doesn’t matter what kind of “reach” or follower count you may have… everybody checks and stresses about “likes” and engagement. Everybody.

Over the last two years when face-to-face human interaction dwindled, I made it a priority to “like” and share the content that I was consuming and enjoying. I placed a priority on liking and sharing content of friends, colleagues and family first and foremost.

Public Service Announcement: Kim Kardashian does not care whether you “like” and share her 15th photo of the day featuring yet another handbag worth more than your car.

Aunt Rose on the other hand would really appreciate you liking her latest baking triumph. Give a double tap on cousin Eddie’s latest skateboard trick.

By celebrating and liking what your friends and family are sharing you are taking the first steps to creating a “culture of likes”, which is very on trend regardless of your brand.

Now if you’ll excuse me I have some scrolling and likes to give. After all, they’re still free!”

As my Grandpa Dyer was fond of saying: “Treat your children well, because they will be picking out your retirement home.” A wise man, that guy…

So, after doing some scrolling of my own and liking dozens of “foodie” posts on the ‘gram, I am officially hungry, so here is a food dominated Mac (& Cheese) musings for you. I will gladly hold the cheese for any dairy sensitive readers…

Mac Musings for Monday, August 25.

Al Michaels pictured in his fifth decade of not eating vegetables.
  1. I am currently munching on Triscuit thin crisps, specifically the parmesan garlic variety. I have no real idea why, but they simply taste better than the full-size Triscuits I grew up powering through.
  2. Because I know you’re anxiously awaiting this: My top-three Triscuit Thins varieties: 1) zesty jalapeno 2) parmesan garlic 3) sour cream & onion. The barbecue version is… unfortunate.
  3. All this talk of crackers… cinnamon graham crackers and coffee together make me very happy. In fairness, one or the other is a pretty good start. There is something comforting about the way the graham cracker bricks are still wrapped securely in the waxy brown plastic.
  4. As I was thinking about my intense hatred for broccoli and cauliflower – as people do – I was reminded of sports broadcasting icon Al Michaels’ audacious claim that he has “never knowingly eaten a vegetable”. Well, the dude is 80 and still doing Thursday Night Football for the NFL on Prime, so I guess he has chosen wisely.
  5. After careful thought and consideration, I have decided to make a burrito. Thank you for your support. Buscalo!

QUOTABLE

Jim Gaffigan is firmly anti-kale.

I would say some of the food I talk about that I really enjoy, like cake and bacon, I eat a lot less than I portray in my act. But that stuff that I dislike, it’s pretty sincere.
