Work In Progress Newsletter
Edition One | May 23, 2022
WRITE THIS WAY…
Hello All and welcome to the first edition of my weekly newsletter. I am still workshopping names for the newsletter, which, as often happens with creatives, has delayed the launch for at least two weeks. “Working Title” was already claimed so the search continues.
THREE DOTS… GOOD NEWS ONLY!
The cost of this free newsletter has already been adjusted for inflation… Stephen Curry plays with joy and fire… He also completed his undergraduate degree at Davidson, so let the alumni donor letters commence… Nice to see cross-training is still a thing. Eugenio Suarez of the Seattle Mariners demonstrates… A look back at the cross-training OG…
BEST THING I LEARNED
I took Mel Robbins Spring Reset and it was very therapeutic and exactly what I needed at the moment. Think of it as unplugging and restarting your router. Can’t recommend it enough. Check it out HERE.
WHAT I LINKEDIN LEARNED
Took “Communicating with Charisma” with Vanessa Van Edwards. I’m admittedly late to the party on this one (posted Feb., 2020) but she opens the lesson by saying “You are brilliant…” which may be the best opener ever.
WHAT I’M READING
For Improvement: The High 5 Habit by Mel Robbins
For an Escape: Live Wire by Harlan Coben
Embracing my inner history nerd: The Second World Wars by Victor Davis Hanson
ESCAPE POD
One of my favorite weekly listens is The Rewatchables from The Ringer Podcast Network. Last week they dropped a recap of E.T. which was one of the landmark movies of my childhood. I remember being completely hypnotized in the theater and later on at the drive-in. (DM me if you need a description of what a drive-in movie entails.)
All episodes (250 and counting) of the Rewatchables are available for free on Spotify.
CLIP OF THE WEEK
Apparently, this is how you Uber in Big D… Don’t ever change, Chuck.
MY GIF TO YOU
A live look-in at my last Uber trip
YELP REVIEW FROM A FAMOUS PERSON
“While I still have got breath in my lungs I will tell you what a dandy car you make. I have drove Fords exclusively when I could get away with one.”
– Clyde Champion Barrow in a note to Henry Ford
QUOTABLE
“I wish I was having as much fun as the press reports said I did.”
– Sheryl Crow
THIS WAY OUT
Thanks for reading this limited first edition newsletter. This is very much a work in progress and I will be tinkering with it along the way. My goal is to release these on Mondays. Thanks to Kim Kaupe and Terry Rice for encouraging me to launch this into the universe. Comments welcome!
