Don’t Call it a Comeback…

Hello everybody. Nice seeing you again. It’s me, Ryan.
I would like to apologize for my (lengthy) absence. I was experiencing some (crippling) difficulties with my writing, but after numerous calls to tech support, I simply unplugged and rebooted.
Voila! Problem solved!
Many things have happened since my last posting. I will take you on a month-by-month one-sentence journey.
Soooo… what have you been up to?
April – I turned 50, yet with my exceptional cognitive abilities, I am still young enough to remember when “50-years old” sounded really, really (really) old.
May – At long last, I got a new job working for the Urban Mobility Office in the Oregon Department of Transportation.
June – Began volunteering at a summer concert series featuring Peso Pluma, Tears For Fears, Luke Bryan, Wallflowers, and wait for it… NICKLEBACK!!!!
July – Legendary crooner Tony Bennett passed away at 96 and I spent at least two weeks trying – and ultimately failing – to write an obituary on someone that unknowingly made a big impact in my life.
August – When the Pac-12 conference imploded and succumbed to a breathtaking series of self-inflicted wounds caused solely by dueling dollar signs and hubris, I felt remarkably fortunate to not be working in college athletics.
September – I’m a bit fuzzy on details, but I know I played Earth, Wind and Fire’s classic… a lot.
October – While I am contractually obligated to note that this is my only begotten sister’s birthday month, I also took a remarkable helicopter flight with an ODOT photographer. GALLERY
November – Thankful to celebrate six months at ODOT, my dad’s 80th birthday and thoroughly enjoyed reconnecting/reuniting with some of my favorite people.
December – For the first time since I was a junior in high school, my Detroit Lions won the NFC North and I am still not sure how I am supposed to feel about that.
January – January is increasingly important to me and I look forward to what lies ahead in 2024!
One of my goals for 2024 is to update this space 2-3 times per week. I am still tinkering with format, but with the silence of my long sabbatical shattered, I am back!
