Top-5 Mac Musings – July 30, 2025

MOVING DAY… AGAIN
I was asked recently to help yet another friend with the great “moving adventure”. My first instinct was to pretend I was going through a tunnel and hang up. My second was to schedule elective surgery. My third was to use the vague “let me check my calendar… it seems like I might have something like a root canal scheduled…”. 

I regret to inform you that I froze up and said “Sure… when and what time?” instead. There are few things I hate more than moving. Visualizing how cool the new space will be and the opportunities awaiting are all very well and good, but must the process to get there be so exhausting?

My worst move was during COVID. I was living in the San Francisco Bay Area at the time and decided paying 2k in rent for an in-law unit while working completely remotely while the world was shut down was dumb. That is until I started packing. Three boxes in, I was ready to call the landlords to beg them to keep me.

I truly thought I had sworn off helping other people move. The last person who asked I sent an Amazon gift card along with “regrets” and “best wishes on a smooth move”. Best. $100. Ever.

There used to be some joy in it. Helping your buddies. Wolfing down the inevitable cold Domino’s pizza along with whatever suspect drinks were left in the fridge. 

Now? Not so much. My back aches looking at packing tape. 

Well, I’ve put this off as long as I possibly can. Going to wrap myself in bubble wrap and hope for the best.

And now onto my Top-5 Musings for Wednesday, July 30, 2025.

1. I watched the new Happy Gilmore movie. I think if Adam Sandler would have really worked harder, he could have squeezed in at least 15-20 more cameos.
2. Shooter McGavin would make a great Bond villain. At the very least an Austin Powers henchman.
3. Only because you asked: top-5 Bond villains, no particular order:

   5. Rosa Klebb
4. Whoever came up with U-Haul’s “Moving Made Easier” was the same genius who devised “What happens in Vegas, stays in Vegas”.
5. Couples therapy would be a lot more fun if bubble wrap was handed out on entry.

2. Credenzas/sideboards
3. Dressers
4. Overpacked kitchen boxes
5. Clothes hangers
