I’m (Way) Too Old For This…

Top-5 Mac Musings – July 31, 2025

MOVING DAY… AGAIN… A RECAP

Well… that definitely happened.

Danny Glover’s Sergeant Murtaugh was a verifiable psychic: I am too old for this sh*t.

For those alert readers out there, yesterday I agreed to help move a former coworker. It was a moment of weakness. It will not happen again, at least, until the next time someone plays upon my emotions/guilt.

The move went about as smoothly as one of these things can go. If you were waiting for the inevitable “but…” wait for it…

BUT…

The move out was easy-ish. 12 stairs down, followed by 12 stairs up and straight into the waiting cargo hold of the U-Haul.

The move in was a five-alarm nightmare. Thirty (30!!) stairs to the front door after a 90 degree pivot then eight more stairs and another tighter 90 degree turn and then eight more stairs into the living space.

A live look at yesterday’s stairs.

If I would have seen it in advance, I would have scheduled an elective root canal. It was 82 degrees. I sweated. A lot. The best thing about it: the move is done. Once I made my escape it was time to go. You’re not going to believe this, but I encountered heavy northbound traffic which meant the last four miles of my commute took 42 minutes. #blessed

And now onto my Top-5 Musings for Thursday, July 31, 2025.

Bad Boys
  1. For the record, Danny Glover was 41 (!!) while filming Lethal Weapon. It is such a shame that the entire movie franchise is forever tainted by the epic Mel Gibson meltdown. Some of the best buddy cop action ever captured on film. Why Mel… Why????
  2. I got to meet Danny Glover at an event surrounding the Giants appearing in the 2010 World Series. Could not have been nicer.
  3. Because you asked… I heard you! Top-5 buddy cop movie pairings, no particular order
    • Lethal Weapon: Riggs and Murtaugh
    • Beverly Hills Cop: Foley and Taggart
    • 48 Hours: Hammond and Cates
    • Bad Boys: Burnett and Lowery
    • Blues Brothers: Jake and Elwood1
    • Hon. Mention: Turner & Hooch2
  4. Been watching the Netflix series “Untamed”. It’s about a murder mystery set in Yosemite National Park. It is a good series, but I find myself more interested in the scenery and the stunning footage more than some minor plot points.
  5. Finally completed some elementary math. My final stair tally yesterday was roughly 2,478. Once tariffs are applied you will be paying for those steps for me. Great news!3

BONUS TOP-FIVE: 80s TV Themes

For an ex-special forces unit, this group couldn’t hit water falling out of a boat.
  1. Magnum P.I.
  2. A-Team
  3. Simon & Simon
  4. Cosby Show
  5. Facts of Life4

Hon. Mention: Anything composed by Mike Post

FOOTNOTES
1 They spend the entire movie in a cop car running from, well, cops… and Nazis, so…

2 Tom Hanks and a slobbery dog? Magic.

3 This was confirmed by noted sycophant and clinically truth-averse Howie Lutnick.

4 I generally despised the show, but the theme was kind of a banger.

QUOTABLE

“You Got That, Riggs? You’re Not Dead Until I Tell You.” – Sgt. Roger Murtaugh (Danny Glover in Lethal Weapon)
