FINISHING WITH THAT FRIDAY FLOURISH

Top-5 Mac Musings – August 22, 2025
FINISHING WITH THAT FRIDAY FLOURISH
Congratulations are definitely in order. Why, you ask? We successfully completed the work week, you magnificent people! The odds were stacked against us from the start when you stop to think about it, but here we are.
We overcame a lot just to get here. Here! We kept our chins up as we were assaulted daily by news we don’t know how to process or even verify, let alone deal with properly. We found moments of joy where they were and sometimes we had to look longer to find them than anyone could have anticipated.1
But, we persisted and I am proud of you all.
STORY TIME
When I was working my first job at the Kalama Shopping Center one of my bosses at the time had worked in tech during the very early days when computers needed a closet not a desk. He gave me a quote which I still remember due to its wisdom: “One ‘awwww shit’ wipes out three ‘atta-boys’.2
Here is my top-five list of historical people I would most want to receive an “atta boy” from:
- Mother Teresa – The GOAT of selfless, compassionate service to others.
- Teddy Roosevelt – One of the world’s most vigorous, intellectually curious people.
- Albert Einstein – If he couldn’t teach me math, well it’s just never going to work.
- Mister Rogers – I am still in awe of his infinite kindness, curiosity and optimism.
- Muhammad Ali – Transcended every arena.
Mac Musings for Friday, August 22.
- I was in a mood for Hitchcock today and watched “To Catch a Thief” starring Cary Grant and Grace Kelly. Somehow I have missed this one and I am still kicking myself. An amazing film beautifully shot and captured by a true genius.
- The chemistry between Grant and Kelly is something to behold. This sounds trite, but they are very, very good-looking.
- The French Riviera was dazzling and showcased brilliantly, especially when considering the movie was made in 1955 just 10 years after the end of World War II and only 11 years removed from Nazi occupation of France.
- I still think one of Hitchcock’s greatest directing accomplishments was making Jimmy Stewart look evil in “Rear Window”. He was almost unrecognizable from “Mr. Smith Goes to Washington” or “Harvey” (two of my mom’s favorite movies).
- In honor of “To Catch a Thief”, it’s time for my top-five favorite heist movies, in no particular order
- Heat
- Ocean’s 11
- Bank Job
- Out of Sight
- Italian Job
