Top-5 Mac Musings – July 29, 2025
R.I.P. RYNO
Received an urgent text from my best friend George this afternoon that legendary Cub Ryne Sandberg had passed away at 65 after a long battle with prostate cancer. A Spokane native, Sandberg was one of the “big three” local sports legends, joining John Stockton and Mark Rypien while I was attending Gonzaga in the late 1990s. (Yes… I am that old.)
One of the great things about life in pre-internet times was watching TV in the student union and WGN was always on and so were the Cubbies with Sandberg playing a prominent role. Legendary broadcaster Harry Caray was always at his best (or worst depending on perspective) when discussing the 10-time All-Star.
As always, cancer sucks. And guys, please get screened and checked. Your prostate will thank you.
And now onto my Top-5 Musings for Tuesday, July 29, 2025.
- When stuck in bumper to bumper traffic, what is the absolute maximum number of cars you will allow to merge in front of you before you stop?
- I think mine is 2.5. I freely admit I have prejudices based on certain car types.
- For the record those car types are…
- Any Tesla
- Especially the abominable “cybertruck”
- Jaguars
- Late model Prius
- Was thinking today about what one television show that would be so much more relevant today that it was when it initially aired? My first thought: “Spin City”. Michael J. Fox is one of my favorite actors and humans ever.
- But the reality is I would pick “Nightline” with Ted Koppel. Imagine a time when journalists attacked wrongdoing and held politicians in check regardless of party affiliation. Sounds like an impossible dream now.
BONUS TOP-FIVE: Best Michael J. Fox Roles
- Marty McFly – Back to the Future franchise
- Alex P. Keaton – Family Ties
- Mike Flaherty – Spin City
- Lewis Rothschild – American President
- Dr. Ben Stone – Doc Hollywood
Hon. Mention: Scott Howard – Teen Wolf
