Top-5 Mac Musings – August 20, 2025

BINGEABLE CONTENT
Longtime readers will remember my fondness for “Rewatchables” and “Rereadables”. I just made that second word up out of thin air, but it’s OK… I was an English major. As with many things, I blame Bill Simmons who came up with the concept of “The Rewatchables” and made it into a podcast.

Simply put a “Rewatchable” is a movie that when you are surfing the channels or scrolling through the bowels of a streaming site looking for your next watch, you see a movie or a show that you love and you immediately click on it to watch it again.

I am absolutely the target demographic for the “Rewatchables”. I tend to watch movies over and over again. If it has Tom Cruise in it, or if Jerry Bruckheimer or Michael Mann or wrote/directed/produced it I have seen it at least 20 times.

If not already abundantly clear, I am a large-scale nerd.

Movies I have seen the most, with approximate, updated number of rewatches as verified by the accounting firm PricewaterhouseCoopers1

Star Wars narrowly edges out Empire Strikes Back.
  1. Star Wars – 433
  2. Empire Strikes Back – 422
  3. Tombstone – 217
  4. Top Gun – 144
  5. From Russia With Love – 105

Honorable Mention: Thunderball (88), Return of the Jedi (85), Heat (57) Anchorman (55), 40-Year Old Virgin (54), Dr. No (50), Saving Private Ryan (49), Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade (47), Christmas Vacation (44), Vacation (41), Caddyshack (40), The Fugitive (38), Goldfinger (36), Top Gun Maverick (34), Mission Impossible (32), She’s Out of My League (31), Can’t Hardly Wait (30)

Looking at the above list… Yep… I really need to get out more. I have already discussed my “comfort movies but all of the films listed above are movies I can play in the background of my day and start watching at any point and know exactly what has happened or is about to happen. Usually I can come in with the right dialogue. It’s a gift.

I’ve seen this scene hundreds of times.

My Favorite Rewatchable Actors // Actresses

  1. Harrison Ford // Julia Roberts
  2. Tom Cruise // Halle Berry
  3. Denzel Washington // Scarlett Johannson
  4. Tom Hanks // Salma Hayek
  5. Sean Connery // Anne Hathaway

Honorable Mention: Ryan Reynolds // Angela Bassett & Bill Murray // Rosamund Pike & Daniel Craig // Keri Russell

Mac Musings for Wednesday, August 20.

My Dad with his Stihl.
  1. I spent a couple hours today cutting firewood for some family friends up on our tree farm. There is something highly satisfying about using a chainsaw. I would like to thank new blog sponsor Stihl and Stihl Chainsaws for their support of my creative expression.
  2. My dad was a logger and a cutting foreman while I was growing up, first for Weyerhaeuser Company and then for a local company called Albrecht Logging. He always referred to timber falling as the closest thing an average man could get to being a professional athlete.
  3. After running a small chainsaw for a couple hours on logs already on the ground I now completely understand what he was talking about.
  4. One of my favorite follows on Instagram is Stihl who sponsors timber contests and hot saw competitions. Here is the link and a reminder for all of your firewood cutting needs, check out our sponsor Stihl Chainsaws, a proud sponsor of Mac Musings2.
  5. An enduring question on The Rewatchables podcast: If stranded on a desert island whose filmography would you want with you. My answer is probably “Survival Techniques by any Navy Seal that could get me off of this island”. Barring that, my current choice would be Tom Cruise. Or even a montage of him running would be fine with me.

You are welcome.

CURRENTLY REWATCHING
Casino Royale. After reflection, this is probably my 20th rewatch.

Same, Sean… same.

QUOTABLE
“I like women. I don’t understand them, but I like them.”

 – Sir Sean Connery

Footnotes: 1. I am still not sure why PwC is spelled like that with no spaces… accountants… 2. On the advice of counsel and HR and my sister, I would like to clarify I am not, in fact, sponsored by Stihl. Keep watching this space for more sponsor opportunities.
